Karen H. Sheriff, was appointed President and CEO of Bell Aliant in November 2008 after having served as Chief Operating Officer since July 2008. She is a Director of Bell Aliant and is a past Director of Aliant. She became President, Small and Medium Business, Bell Canada in June 2003. Ms. Sheriff has been recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women three times and in 2007, she was named to the Women’s Executive Network (WXN) Top 100 Women Hall of Fame.

At Bell Aliant, the board of directors and the trustees each plays an important role in the organization’s governance. As elected representatives, directors and trustees are responsible for establishing mechanisms that ensure transparency and accountability.
The trustees, who meet quarterly or more as required, approve distributions to unitholders and quarterly disclosures. The board of directors meets more frequently and are responsible for the supervision of the management of the business and affairs of Bell Aliant, including oversight of such things as strategy, budget, governance, risk management, officers and financial reporting.
